By Heather Deeley It took 200 years, but The event kicks off with the Community Choir's summer
concert on the steps of the First Congregational Church at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the parade steps off at 10 a.m., with floats,
period costumes, vintage cars, Riddle hearses, and trolley cars all following
the lead of Grand Marshal "Benjamin Tappan," as portrayed by
Richard Rufener, down Opening the ceremony at 11 a.m. will be Benjamin Tappan and
Mayor Paul Jones, followed by a Bicentennial Quilt presentation by the Calico
Hearts Quilt Guild of Ravenna. Arts, crafts, games and food booths will be
open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. downtown. Crowds will be entertained by the music
of calliope, dulcimer, ragtime, rock, orchestra, gospel, the Ravenna High
School Steel Drum Band and others. At 7 p.m. the festivities continue on the On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., residents
can take a trolley ride through time, where tour guides will point out 51
historic sites and tell the stories behind them. The tours leave Ohio Edison
downtown. Some of the points of interest include the Storrs-Brayton House,
the Cleveland Worsted Woolen Mills Redfern Plant, the Sunday, the community is invited to a bicentennial worship
service on the Again, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., arts, crafts, games and food
booths will be open downtown. From noon to 3 p.m., the Ravenna Antique Dealers
Association will give free appraisals on portable antiques and collectibles
on the courthouse lawn under the big top. |
