The Bluestones, a six piece rhythm and blues band from KentOhio are stacking up impressive accomplishments.  Four years ago the Bluestones were the opening act for Koko Taylor, the "Queen of Chicago Blues", at Kent State University. Since then audiences of around five hundred people have enthusiastically greeted the band as they have continued as Koko Taylor's opening act each year as her tour journeys to KSU.

The Bluestones recorded their first CD, Live At Northside, in June of 1996.  The CD picked up solid reviews by the local press and from Northeast Ohio's "guru" of the Blues, "Fitz", DJ of WCPN 90.3FM Cleveland, where it received substantial airplay.  Their second CD was planned for the summer of 1998. In 2001, The Outskirts of Town was released, showing incredible musical growth.

February 1997 found the Bluestones playing the NBA All-Star basketball game party at Tower City in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio in front of thousands of people.

The Bluestones, one of the area's hardest working bands play in many of Cleveland's and Akron's hottest clubs.  From the bustling flats in Cleveland to the Quaker Hilton in downtown Akron. From the new Ohio Brewery (Niles) to the Catawba Island Club; The Bluestones play many styles of blues, rhythm and blues, and blues rock.

"Bluestones, meet the Bluestones..."

Out of the decades of experience, the Bluestones were born four years ago.

Beginning as one musician's dream, the band's distinctive style, undeniable soul and authentic Blues music makes the Bluestones exactly what it set out to be: a swinging, smooth, growling, heartbroken, my-baby-left-me group.   Pure guts-pure blues.

The Bluestones characteristic style comes from the band's eclectic patchwork of musical talent and diverse influences.  Ranging from gospel hymns to Hendrix, the Bluestones' musicians have transformed the feeling and spirit from several music categories into the band's traditional Blues sound.

Ted Harris is saxophone player, flautist and vocalist for the Bluestones. Harris has experience in many fields, including reggae, jazz and rock.  He has provided recording session work for numerous bands including Colin DuSault's Blues Project and Macaw.

Harris' sax style waives between in-your-face horn blowing to soft and mellow melancholy Blues notes.

Rufus Edge, the Bluestones drummer, began playing music in church while still in high school. Opening for such famous gospel acts as The Mighty Clouds of Joy and the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Edge uses his gospel roots as a springboard into its hard-edged Blues cousin.

Edge's talent for drumming the Blues has earned him recognition as the best on the local scene.

Jim Fox, the band's rhythm guitarist and vocalist, also doubles as the Bluestones' manager.

A fan of great Blues for many years, Fox's Chicago-style rhythms help add style to the band.

Ansel Weese, the original Bluestones bass player extraordinaire!

The Bluestones employ a number of outstanding players, some who have opened for Otis Rush or Charlie Musselwhite to name a few.   They have all contributed to the bands success.

Together, these musicians give the Bluestones a uniquely original sound. The band plays kicking west side Chicago Blues tunes like Otis Rush's "All Your Love (I Miss Lovin')" and Howling Wolf's "Who's Been Talking."  The band also captures the contained south side of Chicago sounds of Muddy Water's in "Nineteen Years Old" and "Blow Wind Blow."  The Bluestones authentic Blues sound has earned itself a reputation for being one of the best acts around. Opening three times for Blues diva Koko Taylor, the band is just doing what it does best:  Singing another chapter in the story of the Blues.  Perhaps that's one reason that the Bluestones perform over one hundred shows a year.
